WPTL COMMERCE CASINO RECAP

Continuing the action in its inaugural season, World Poker Tour Ladies traveled to Los Angeles' Commerce Casino on February 2, 2008, for its second tournament, also a Los Angeles Poker Classic (LAPC) event held in association with the Ladies Poker Association (LPA).  Despite heavy competition from Super Bowl festivities and The Women in Poker Hall of Fame event in Las Vegas, the tournament saw 82 ladies put up $1065 to play.  The competitors, who paid a buy-in of $970 + $65, included Cindy Violet, Anna Wroblewski, Pam Brunson, Erica Schoenberg, Vanessa Selbst and Jen Fox, whose boyfriend Alex Jacob watched intently from the sidelines on breaks from LAPC satellite events.  One man did enter the tournament and held on for a few levels, despite some friendly razzing from the female players.
Rather than playing over two days as planned, the Commerce Casino and the players agreed to play down to the winner in one long day.  And a long day it was.  The event kicked off at 3:30pm on Saturday and ended at 7:00am Sunday morning with Vanessa Selbst emerging the winner of $26,500 in cash, a pink WPT chipset, LAPC and LPA trophies, and a $1500 seat at the WPTL Championship at Bellagio in April.  Erica Schoenberg placed second to take home $14,690 while LPA President Crystal Osgood cashed in at third for $10,920.
Players sported pink bracelets given out by WPT to promote and encourage donations to the WPTL official charity partner, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cure.
