$1,000 Paycheck

$1,000 Paycheck

By Coach Al

Recently, a club member posted a question on the forums concerning putting a plan together to increase the player's bankroll and earn a part-time income of approximately $1,000 a month from the SNGs that the player participated in.  The following article contains the scenario developed by Coach Al to give that club member a feel for the hurdles that would need to be overcome to achieve that goal.

"Here's an example I threw together. I'm sure you can play with the numbers and change them around to get different results, but this is a basic idea.

$10 buy in 9 player tourney, average time to play...1 hour to 90 minutes

1st place $45 -- buy in = $34.00 x 30 days = $1020.00
2nd place $27 -- buy in = $16.00 x 30 days = $480.00
3rd place $18 -- buy in = $8.00 x 30 days = $240.00

$10 buy in 45 player tourney, average time to play …90 minutes to 2 ½ hours +

1st place $171 -- buy in = $160 x 30 days = $4800.00
2nd place $112.50 -- buy in = $102.50 x 30 days = $3375.00
3rd place $72.- buy in = $61.00 x 30 days = $1830.00
4th place $45- buy in = $ $34.00 x 30 days = $1020.00
5th place $27 -- buy in = $16.00 x 30 days = $480.00
6th place $22.50 -- buy in = $11.50 x 30 days = $345.00

So, is making $1000 per month realistic and feasible?

Well, as you can see from the exact winning payouts above, sure it's feasible, but you'd have to win outright 100 % of the games in the 9 player SnG…. virtually impossible to accomplish…  In the 45 player SnG, you'd have to finish in 1st in 21% of the games to collect $1008.00; you'd have to finish 2nd 30% of the time to collect $1012.50; you'd have to finish 3rd 55% of the time to collect $1006.50 and you'd have to finish 4th 100% of the time to collect $1020.00

I honestly think it's feasible to accomplish making $1000 per month in the 45 player SnG.  Although, you have to have the knowledge and bank roll in order to be able to attempt it, to make the money in 21% of 30 games is extremely difficult …to make the money in just about every game you play in is simple incredible! ..Remember, this chart is based on 1 game max per day!

My advice to anyone who sets such goals, prepare yourself for a let down, and if that let down occurs …pick yourself up and try again if your bank roll is able to withstand this type of pressure…

Something like this takes more than it seems, just to say a $ amount and go for it is fine, but remember many things:
1) Is your goal set to high?
2) Are you ready to play at this level?
3) Do you have the knowledge?
4) Do you have the bank roll ? ( remember the 30 x rule)
5) Do you have the patience?
6) Are you using the tools available to you on RFC to study and learn

These are just a drop in the bucket of questions you have to ask yourself, and are just a basic idea of what to think about when making a self goal.  My suggestion would be to shoot for a lesser more achievable goal, one that you can reach and one that's within your limits of knowledge and bank roll.  This is something that I take very seriously in all of my coaching/mentoring sessions…1 step at a time is much better than taking leaps and bounds! …when you're walking and fall down, it doesn't hurt near as much as it does when you're running and jumping.

I hope this helps in some small way

Best of luck at the tables!

Al
